Missy Luukkonen is a full-time maker, pattern designer, and sewing educator who has spent over 30 years perfecting the art of the stitch. Based in the lakeside cottage country of northern Minnesota, she is the founder of The Little Green Bean, a brand born from a lifelong obsession with making things by hand.

Missy’s sewing story began in a high school home economics class, but it truly took flight in 2009. What started as a hobby to relieve stress after a corporate 9-5 evolved into a thriving Etsy shop—originally famous for its upcycled burlap coffee bean bags. Over nearly two decades, her business has grown alongside her, shifting from handmade physical goods like gnomes and birds to digital pattern design and education.

Missy describes herself as a proud "Type B sewist". She champions a philosophy of "encouragement over perfection," inviting her community to embrace the joy of creating without the pressure of the "quilt police". Whether she’s exploring sustainable sewing with thrifted fabrics or designing her next quilt pattern, her goal remains the same: to help others find their "Creative Happy Place".
